Skye is a great place to learn and develop your sailing skills – Portree Harbour and its backdrop of the Cuillin Hills truly is a marvellous place to sail
Cadet sailing courses
We offer a range of sailing courses through the summer holidays delivering RYA approved training. We use RYA course material and RYA Qualified Instructors for our summer school courses and provide all equipment needed.
We like to take a little more time than standard RYA courses (usually 4 days, Monday to Thursday) This allows us to spend time to build confidence on and around the water, giving a more rounded sailing skill-set and greater self-reliance which is helpful to progress in coastal waters. We also get the chance to explore the harbour, visiting beaches and sailing with the dolphins! Running sailing courses on Skye, we are at the mercy of the weather and the longer course allows us a greater degree of flexibility to adapt the course to suit the conditions.
Age 10 is our lowest unaccompanied youth limit, however, we can consider teaching younger sailors with a parent or guardian as part of a family group booking.
Adult sailing courses
We run sailing courses for adults that are spread over evening and weekend sessions. This suits many adults who don’t have the luxury of school holidays!
Subject to demand we can also run 4 day courses in the summer holidays.
Courses and experience days begin at 10.30am and end around 4.00pm
All course participants must become members of the club. However, there is a temporary membership category which is ideal for those who do not expect to participating in the weekly club nights.
We can cater for family groups wishing to learn together. If booking as a family, we are able to begin our courses with juniors aged below 10 – but please contact us before booking to discuss details.
Courses will use various dinghies (new in 2016) and include:
Topper Taz – a great boat for juniors whether starting out or experienced
Topper Club – a single handed boat giving you full control and sometimes a swim…
Topper Race – the ubiquitous dinghy with all the string and tweaky bits for racers
RS Feva – great two-junior boat with spinnaker - can be a handful for an adult too…
Laser Bahia – perfect family boat with space for sandwiches and granddad
