Sailing Club InstructorEvery year or two we run instructor training for dinghy sailors. This is suitable for those who have completed RYA level 4 and want to share their skills and experience with new sailors. At Skye Sailing Club it has traditionally been a rite of passage for our most experienced young sailors who go on to form the back bone of our instructor team for the summer sailing school.

Courses are delivered through external RYA instructors and often delivered in conjunction with other Highland clubs.

Prerequisites

  • Minimum Age: You must be at least 16 years old on the first day of the training course.
  • Pre-Entry Sailing Assessment (4th Otober): You must pass the RYA Pre-Entry Sailing Assessment within one year prior to your instructor training course to prove your personal sailing competence.
  • RYA Powerboat Level 2: You must hold a powerboat handling certificate.
  • First Aid Certificate: You need a valid, RYA-recognised first aid qualification (typically a 1-day course).
  • RYA Safe and Fun: You must complete this online safeguarding certificate provided directly by the RYA.
  • RYA Membership: An active RYA membership is required to process and issue your final qualification.
