Skye Sailing Club

The present 'Skye Sailing Club' is formed from the old 'Portree Sailing Club' and the old 'Skye Sailing Club' which was originally based in Armadale at the south of the Island.

The two old clubs amalgamated in 1998 to form a single club based in Portree.

In 2014 the Club bought the derilict boatshed on the Scorybreac shore, refurbished and extended it to enhance the Club's shoreside facilities with electricity (!), water, kitchen, classroom, shower and a loo. In 2015 the Club became a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) and in 2016, when the building work had finished, rejuvinated its fleet of boats. This was all done with the help of Coastal Communities Funding.

The aim of the Club is to promote and facilitate the sport of boating, under sail, with oars, paddles and engines, in and around the Isle of Skye.

The Club has an open-door policy encouraging anyone from any background to take up and enjoy our sport. One of the main ways we keep the club so inclusive is by keeping all fee's low – membership and course fees.

Club nights

Every week during the Summer (May - October) the Club runs evening sailing sessions from the Boathouse on the Scorrybreac shore in Portree.

Tuesday – Adults only – Starts 6.30pm

Wednesday – Junior Cadets' Sailing – Starts 6.30pm

Thursday – Advanced Cadets' Sailing – Starts 6.30pm

Sailing at weekends

Some Saturdays / Sundays,12.00-4.00pm (or as announced on Facebook) - sailing for all with some races.

Assistance from volunteer members is always appreciated to make weekend sailing happen.

Winter sailing

Outside of the main season (May to October) some winter weekend sailing takes place. The water rarely gets below 9 degrees!

For the more experienced there are a number of opportunities to take part in races in the Harbour including the Games Week Regatta. We also travel further afield to compete against other West Coast clubs.

Please Note

The usual boat usage subs apply at all sessions (£7 Adult / £5 Cadet)

We only sail when conditions are appropriate for the skill level. Please always check the Club's Facebook page, which is updated at least one hour before a session if the session is to be cancelled. As a rule of thumb, if it is raining really, really hard or far too windy for the group we will not go out.
